Youth Confirmation Ministry
Memory Work
- Memorize Luke 7:19, 22b. Here is one translation of these
verses: "Are you the One who is to come, or are we to look for
another? The people who are blind receive their sight, those who are
lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, those who are deaf
hear, those who are dead are raised to life, and those who are poor
have the good news brought to them."
- Discuss: "What's a miracle?"

Ascension's Youth Confirmation Ministry is multi-dimensional with learning, servant events, fellowship, small group discussion/prayer time, and retreats. The program is called FaithINK or nicknamed “FINK.” It’s a three-year program (6th grade to 8th grade) and classes are offered in two options: every Sunday from 10:30 - 11:15 a.m. or alternate Mondays from 6:45 - 8:30 p.m.
Two times a month one of our pastors leads the whole group together with a Power Point presentation lifting up a theme from one of the six chief parts of Luther’s Catechism or the Bible. The Power Point presentation utilizes art, graphics, music, illustrations, bible passages, and prayer.
The whole group Power Point presentations are on every other Sunday during the month, and the other two Sundays are a small group experience. Under the supervision of parent guides the small group time involves discussing the Power Point presentation, preparing a skit or art work or video for the next Power Point presentation, and prayer time going over the highs and lows of the week in the young people’s lives.
Every other month there is a servant event where the young people continue to grow in their servant lifestyle. Some of these servant events have included: going to a nursing home and helping residents with mobility issues get to the chapel service in their wheel chairs, gathering canned goods for the North Olmsted food bank, and going to Redeemer Crisis Center to wrap gifts and to put together bags of food.
In the months when there is not a servant event there is a fellowship event, the young people have gone on picnic outings to the Metroparks, tobogganing at the Chalet in Strongsville, bowling, and skating.
Two times a year — once in the fall and again in the spring — the youth go on an overnight retreat with the pastors and adults with a focus of learning. The different modules of learning are: friends, music, sexuality, vocation, and communication. All of the modules are in the setting of living our lives in the spirit of Christ.
The confirmation service at Ascension is on Reformation Sunday, the last Sunday in October. Prior to confirmation, the confirmands are invited to participate in the Senior High Youth Ministry.
